A Gift of Worth

Little Sable Lighthouse, Photo by Mary Vee We have a gift of worth.  What we do when someone tries to take it away from us is up to us. Blue Ridge Parkway, Photo by Mary Vee My characters are thrown into difficult situations, often ones they cannot solve immediately or alone. While dealing with the crisis, their self worth comes into question. Doubts form. The characters dwell on the doubts and allow their strong wall of worth to gradually crumble. The story then takes them through this time. Israel, near Jordan, Photo by Mary Vee What draws us to stories is connecting with the character in some way. We are searching for hope. This story came to my mind: Israel, near Jerusalem, Photo by Mary Vee There once was a servant standing on a hill. Beyond the valleys surrounding him was a ring of tall hills.  In the valley below, soldiers threatened his life and the life of his master. He became frightened and saw n...

The Dream, Number One, Christmas Gift

Hubby and I had the annual Christmas talk. The one that starts:  "So, honey, what do you want for Christmas?" And  continues  with, this response: "I don't know." And so, the games began. Neither one of us wants to confess the dream, number one Christmas gift.  There are several reasons for this.  1. The dream gift is uber expensive. 2. The dreamer doesn't trust the purchaser to find and buy the right one. 3. There isn't enough time to arrange/find/get the dream gift. 4. The dreamer feels guilty about asking for that item. Sigh.  I have no clue what hubby would like for Christmas. From our first Christmas celebrated as a married couple, we've chosen to have a birthday party for Jesus. Knowing that the money to buy the gifts came from God, we honored Him with a celebration rightfully belonging to Him. Hubby and I buy balloons, have a birthday cake, sing Happy Birthday to Jesus, decorate our home with a Christmas ...

Good News

Twas (It is the week before Christmas.) And all is a bustle. I don't know about you, but I've put in some long days, preparing rooms, menus, shopping, and activities for the family members who will be here for Christmas. I love the preparations but am really happy for the break to write this blog.  Hey, want to take a break with me?  In this fourth week of Advent let's think about some amazing words from our heavenly Father. Absolutely nothing can separate us from God's love.  You are so loved.  To prove His love, God sent His Son, Jesus,  to live among us, talk with us, teach us, show us about God. Jesus is our Good News. He made a way for us to live forever with the God who loves us. Christmas will be celebrated this Sunday by many. It will be a  time to celebrate and remember the birth of God's Son.  Years ago a family from church told me they held a birthday party for Jesus on Christmas day. They made a ...

Advent-A Secret Kept By An Entire City

photo by Mary Vee It's the third week of Advent 2016. Set aside the crazy aspects that take place, you know what they are, and think of the heart meaning of Advent with me.  Breathe in deeply. Hold the air. Slowly release. Ready? This is a time of wonder and preparation. Dedicate your thoughts for what is about to come: The celebration of the birth of Christ the King. Feels good, yes? Okay, I couldn't keep from talking to you about Italy another week. I learned so much about the rich heritage of this country while there. Trust me, you'll see why today's post is worth your time and its connection with Advent.  Photo by Mary Vee After walking through the entrance of St. Francis Basilica, through the lower chapel with the breathtaking painted ceilings, up the narrow stairs, and out to a court, I saw this view. The lower brick area was the first floor I just walked through, the upper stained glass windows are the third floor, the main chapel where the P...
