Morning Sounds of Her Little One--Sweet February

How is it that a toddler wakes before the parents?  The morning light weighed her to her pillow. She covered her head with her blanket. It was too early to rise. She hadn’t had coffee and the alarm wouldn’t ring for at least thirty minutes. Magically her child lept to his feet, grabbed hold of his crib rails and bounced on the mattress as though it were a trampoline, announcing the beginning of a new day. She didn’t have to be in his room to know this is what he did.  “Mama, ma-ma, maaaaaa-maaaaaa--come and get me,” was the loose translation of the gibberish saturated with playful demand. Like a myriad of mothers living before her and in households across the land where the weight of the morning sun crept through bedroom drapes, she waited. Allowing her head to be weighed down on her beloved pillow smooshed to a perfect consistency, and her blanket to hide her from the morning sun. Perhaps he’ll give up and go back to sleep. But, no. The jabbe...

Splashing the World With Love

Remember the school Valentines Day party? Your mom bought Valentine cards she thought you'd like. She gave you something to write with and had you print the names of your classmates on the cards. The next day, the cards were delivered to homemade boxes sitting on each students' desk. The only part we as kids really cared about was the treats. As an adult, Valentines Day takes on a different light. Summer in Traverse City, photo by Mary Vee Hubby sat at the dining room table yesterday and said, "How would you like to go to Traverse City on Tuesday?"  Well, well, the man has learned to speak my love language: Time with him. Travel. Nature. Boats, water, sand dunes, groves, vines, light houses, yeah. God's creation. Score ten for hubby. So while you are reading this post, I will be  out. At the lake, in the woods, on the sand dunes. But.... I have some idea starters for your Valentines Day.  One friend said she has a birthday on Valentines...

The Importance of a Great Review-How Was Your Valentines Day?

Recently, I've read comments from authors regarding book reviews.  Apparently, the more book reviews there are for a book, the greater publicity it gets from Amazon, Google, Goodreads, etc.  I haven't received a book contract, but some day I hope to. That is the day I'll understand the great importance to this concern. For now, I'm going to look at the topic from a slightly different point of view, make that two different point of views and discuss how this concern can be relevant to us today. 1st. How was your Valentines? Did you get something special? Did you give something special. Did you spend time with someone special? Somehow I think that if the answer to any of the above was yes, you would have found a way to express your gratitude, maybe by saying thank you, giving a hug or a kiss. Even after the gift was received these three days later, you remember the wonderful feeling you had when receiving the token and want to share your news with others...

He Thought of Her

Last weekend I went with hubby on his business trip. He worked the night shift and slept during the day. To give him quiet time I went to the hotel lobby to do some writing and half listen to the Olympics.  A man was seated at one of the tables. He had a tablet, papers, and a card sprawled out in front of him. The card was a Valentines card. He'd mostly filled the white space with handwriting.  I walked to another table and pulled out my laptop to work. The man played a video, I couldn't hear the words but a child was speaking.  How thoughtful.  He could have been swimming, working out, goofing off with co-workers or friends, or any of a hundred other things, but he thought of her and bought a card, took the time to write a long message, and probably dropped it in the mail later that day. How thoughtful. One day Mary came to Jesus. They were at a wedding in Canan. She'd heard the wine would soon run out and became concerned for the b...

Happy Valentines!

Today,  I spill my wish made back at Christmas time. I wished for 75 followers for this website by Valentines Day.  And look what God gave me! He gave me you! More than I could have ever dreamed. Since the start of this website last July, I have met more wonderful people, godly people. I am so blessed. You are all my valentine Thank you. Second,  I want to show my appreciation to my hubby, Hank, who has supported me in my writing career. He encourages me to write, learn, crit, edit, polish. He cheers the accomplishments and hugs when the rejections come. He is my Valentine. Third, I want to show my appreciation for my teen daughter, who has prayed during family devotions every single night for over a year that God would bless my writing ministry. She has faithfully shown an interest. She deserves a big valentine. Fourth, I want to show my appreciation for my fellow Alley cats at The Writers A...
