New Year Resolutions AND Syrian Refugees

Perhaps you have been asked the usual New Year Question, What is your resolution? Perhaps you asked yourself before anyone else did. Usually, I play the game and answer with one of the standards that everyone else says then find myself failing by February. This year I chose to make annual goals. That way I have the whole year to complete the tasks instead of expecting to fulfill one resolution every day. How about you? What is your resolution for this year? ## I'm one of those who enjoys sending snail mail Christmas cards. I do it because I want to receive Christmas cards. There is a doorway in my home where I tape the cards. When the tree comes down, I take down the cards.  Some of the cards include Christmas letters.  Traditionally, Christmas letters serve as a year in focus. A friend tells what happened in their family's life over the course of the previous year. One friend had an interesting closing paragraph. She described for me what she chose to...

Don't forget...

While this is a new year, we should remember those who are hurting. I am one. Today, my post is very short because I will be at the funeral for my father-in-law.  Dr. Vee.  Dr. Vee led a life that holds an unbelievable history. If you would like to read a short summary that appeared in newspapers: Metro Detroit's medical community is mourning the death of Dr. Vainutis Kazimieras Vaitkevicius, a key physician in the creation of the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute and a compassionate leader in Michigan's oncology field.  Dr. Vaitkevicius  — known by patients and colleagues as "Dr. Vee" — died on Dec. 24, 2017, at Omega House Hospice in Houghton. He was 90. "Dr. Vee touched many lives," Patricia A. Ellis of the Karmanos Cancer Institute wrote in an email.  "He would not be one to boast about himself but, for me personally, he is so very deserving of us honoring him and celebrating the gifts he shared with all of us that will co...

First Blog Party of the Year: Come Celebrate!

Photo Courtesy Party!! Celebrating 127 subscribers to my  Never Give Up Stories Adventures    and my soon to be released book: Andiamo, Let's Go To Italy Happy   New   Year ! To me, there is something invigorating about a new year. Like the early morning, when the sun rises and colors appear and nature can be seen. The sun moves cross the sky and things happen. Some good. Some bothersome. Some not so good. This is the day the Lord has made. Take one step at a time. Move toward the finish line where a good night's sleep awaits. Leap over obstacles in the way and keep walking. Accomplishing. Moving past things that upset. Taking breaks to enjoy the things that please. Starting a new year is like opening a gift. Yah never know what is going to be inside. I always hope for something amazing. Don't you? This year is no different. Those who have hung out here on  Let's Talk  know I love to travel.  Top. Top. Top on my to-do ...

The Importance of Choosing One-Word - and A Gift

There is something thrilling about welcoming in a new year. I can hear Marilla Cuthbert telling young Anne Shirley, "Oh stuff and nonsense. Tomorrow is always fresh with no mistakes in it." Good advice that fits a new year, eh? 2016 is a New Year with no mistakes. Are you ready? It's this Friday!! I love celebrating a new year cresting the midnight hour. Thursday night I'll drink lots of coffee and stay up with the family to celebrate. Some years we read a book as a family to stay awake, a couple of years, my son has set up an elaborate firework display.  So exciting! One-Word Two years ago, I introduced the concept of choosing a one-word to my readers here on Let's Talk.  The directions:  c hoose one word to be your theme for the year. Post the word in a prominent place. Use this word as your goal word for the year.  For example: If I choose the word "trust"  *I might see my goal as learning to trust others  *or I might see my g...

A New Year Idea

Photo Courtesy Happy New Year ! Last year I heard about a new idea, well, it was a new idea for me. I have a feeling the concept has been around for a while, taking its sweet time floating my way. I'd like to share the idea with you. Making a New Year's resolution is easy. We all have an area of our life we'd like to change, improve, or downright delete. Unfortunately, those resolutions rarely endure past February. We try. Fail. Try again. Fail. Eventually we quit and perhaps consider trying again next year. One-Word The new idea is this: choose one word to be your theme for the year. Post the word in a prominent place. Use this word as your goal word for the year.  For example: If I chose "trust" I might see my goal as learning to trust others or I might see my goal as wanting others to trust me. So each day I would pray that God would help me grow in this area.  This concept "trust" needs to saturate every part of your day and nig...

Why Make Resolutions

Thank you, Reader, for participating in my website! This year I plan to continue the Fabulous Friday Features (see the list on the right for upcoming guests)  and discuss interesting behind the scenes look of where others have walked. Each of us has a special journey. I hope to see you often! Happy New Year! I love writing  a list of resolutions.  I rarely finish my list, but I try.  Both God and I know my heart, and He knows His plans for me.  I suppose He has chuckled at a few of my outrageous resolutions and smiled at the ones that honor Him. Still, I forge onward writing new resolutions for each year. How about you?  What is the benefit to writing down one or more resolution/s? Resolutions show our willingness to:  *Change -what can I start or stop doing? *Improve -what can I take to a deeper lever? *Reflect - what have I done well/seen others do? *Repeat - what can I do again? *Think/pray of other s- w...
