The Foundation is Finally Up

I have waited a long time.. Plotted and planned... Watched others and learned... Asked for help, a critical eye... Then modified. I have floundered, debated, and found a place to settle. The building blocks are all in place and the mortar has dried.  I now have the gathering place--my official author's website. This website:  **Defines the type of writing I enjoy **Links all the blogs I write for,  **Will someday advertise my published books (You will be the first to hear! Well maybe the            second. I'll tell my family, first.) **And provide all the great things an established author gives.          (I hope to be one someday) Would you like to see it? I'm so excited.  If you click on the tab at the top of my website that says "My Blogs" then click on "Let's Talk", you will be able to come back here. Isn't that awesome? I'm still trying to figure out how to link the website ...

Veterans Day- The Sacrifice For Others

Today we give honor to our veterans photo courtesy of morguefile.com What will we be doing today?  Go to work. Read or listen to the news. Buy a few items at the store. Talk to a friend or family member on the phone. Catch up on social media. Do some chores at home,  Life walks by.  And it can. Thankfully thousands of soldiers from the American Revolution to the military actions today have and are giving their lives to protect us. Not everyone enters the military with the intent to give their life for their country, yet many find themselves in this position. Bullet whiz by. Land mine explodes. One soldier sees another injured and helps him. Another signals danger. There is nothing glamorous about war. Soldiers from the past didn't know me, neither do soldiers who serve today. Yet the result of their service is a gift to all Americans. One that allows us to go about our daily lives in peace. Years ago, God sent his Son, Jesus, to go to bat...

Fabulous Friday Feature- Ronie Kendig- Hawk

Today I welcome author:  Ronie Kendig To win a copy of  Hawk Scroll to the end of the post  to see how to get your copy. Ronie has been so busy with her writing, I was delighted she took a break to visit with us. A new book release has so many obligations, I had to give her an e spresso with steamed milk and caramel brulée flavored sauce topped with sweetened whipped cream and caramel brulée topping to keep her awake!  JK :)  I asked Ronie to share with us how God has led her on her writing journey. This is what she said: The Champions God Sent to Encourage Me Writing is a journey that has stretched and pulled me, challenged me to grow and demanded I lean heavily on the Lord for strength, for wisdom, and for direction. I am not sure there is another career for me that has forced me dig deep inside for the true measure of surrender.  The first time I really remember a need for surrender...

Three Days

Photo Courtesy Last Sunday at two in the morning most American's changed their clocks to "fall back" one hour. The only exception was the state of Arizona. Tell me if there are others. Did you enjoy the extra hour of sleep? I did. Any way, for those of us who turned our clocks back, I am wondering how we are faring? We've survived three days so far. The sun goes down earlier in the evening and supposedly rises earlier in the morning. School kids end up walking or riding the school bus in the dark most of winter even with the change. Wasn't that the reason for daylight savings time? If I could vote on this matter, I would choose to have the sun brighten more of our daytime. 7am - 9pm is good. I'm a solar powered person, energized in activities as long as the sun is up. When shortened days come with winter, I....find....it....difficult...to...get...work....done. Last winter, a missionary friend in Montana said to the congregation, "Come out ...

Choosing Up Sides

Photo Courtesy In elementary school we often had moments when teams would be picked by the kids. Recess, gym, academic games, and etc. Two from the group had the honor of being named captains. Each captain would take turns picking one person from the group to be on their team until the last person had been chosen. And yes, the last person--who frequently was me--was chosen. I had a team to participate on. No one had to sit on the side because neither team picked them. The captains never said, "Well, I see my choices. I really don't feel like picking a person so I'll just sit out."  Tall, fat, skinny, short, athlete, brainiac, slow, you name it, the captain chose one person then waited to choose another person. To be picked captain was an honor.  This person could create their team from the kids standing before her. The goal, know the kids and pick the best for the job first. Photo Courtesy Tuesday is election day. I'm always amaze...

Fabulous Friday Feature-Laurie Tomlinson

Today I welcome author:  Laurie Tomlinson Laurie has become such a great friend. She is a fellow Alley Cat on the Writer's Alley. I had chatted with her lots of times on line, and was thrilled to finally met her in person at the ACFW conference in September. What a lovely lady. :)  At the Gala this year, Laurie won the Genesis award for her book in the Romance category. I'm so happy for her! She is bound to be published soon. So let's hop on board, get to know her, and be able to say, we knew her when!  I asked Laurie to share with us how God has led her on her writing journey. This is what she said: In A Dusty Corner, Out of Site Thank you to my lovely Mary for letting me share my writing testimony! Hope it's encouraging! My journey begins like many other writers' journeys did: devouring paperbacks by flashlight and filling spiral-bound notebooks with characters and stream-...

20 Things You May Not Know About Me

This new game has given those of us who are playing a fun way to get to know each other. And now I am inviting you to play, too! What is the game?  Answer as many of the questions below as you want. Fun answers are definitely permitted, serious ones allowed, and cornier than ever ones preferred. Ready to get started? First, I must credit my friends Casey Herringshaw and Jill Kemerer for tagging me in this game which started this round. 1. How tall are you?   5'4" The perfect height to be too short to reach anything above the second shelf in my cupboard. But, I am wise...I have a step stool. Hah! 2. Do you have a hidden talent? Yes (hiding face in sleeve) I love to act like a kid when around kids. Have even been know to slip into this mode when around adults. I think that is why I was asked to be the K-2nd grade teacher in AWANA. Last Wednesday I even had the adults laughing with the kids. It's amazing how a dab of fun can do that. 3. What'...
