A Beverage To Please Any Guest

photo taken by Mary Vee
How do you like your beverage? Cream? Sugar? Here is a virtual cup made special for you.

This is a samovar.

I hand carried this treasure from Moscow, and refused to let anyone "help" me hold it. It is my special memory and the souvenir of a trip to Russia. I don't know what one would cost today, but we paid eighty rubles.

A samovar is used as a tool when serving a hot beverage like tea, coffee to guests. I suppose hot cider or other drinks could be served this way as well.

The gold ornate body is filled with cold water and heated with electricity. The holes in top gold piece allow steam to vent and heat the small kettle placed on top. (This samovar did not come with a matching kettle.)

The small kettle is filled with concentrated beverage of choice. Our host served highly concentrated tea. The guest pours the concentrated beverage in their cup then sets the cup under the spigot in the lower center.

By rotating the spigot handle (this one has a white knob) to align center, hot water flows into the cup diluting the concentrated beverage to the guest's desire.

God has also given us His highly concentrated Word, rich in wisdom, compassion, judgement, and instruction. Those forming a new relationship with God understand small amounts of His Word. The Apostle Paul calls it the milk of the Word. As we progress in our relationship with God we can understand greater concentrates of His Word.

Fill my cup Lord, I lift it up, Lord!

Come and quench this thirsting of my soul;
Bread of heaven, Feed me till I want no more--
Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole!

How do you take your cup of coffee/tea?

I still put cream in mine.

It's lovely, Mary. Good job on getting it safely home!! It was fun to learn how it's used. I don't drink coffee any more but enjoy my cup of tea, sometimes White tea, sometimes Ginger - and with a spoonful of honey!
yum, a spoonful of honey is soothing.

One of my absolute favorite classes at ACFW this last year was the medical fiction class. That wasn't the real title, I can't remember what snazzy name the instructors gave it--BUT three stellar medical professionals, who are also Christian Fiction writers, presented great information then opened the time for questions. We students asked them all kinds of questions like what kind of poison would kill a ..., and tons of other questions. It was sooooo much fun, and informative.     I asked Candace, who was one of those fabulous teachers, to join us and share  how God has led her on her writing journey. Here is what she said: God Gave Me a Wake-up Fall The story won’t surprise folks who hav...

I read what I was assigned for school, along with an occasional children’s novel like Pippi Longstocking and Little House in the Big Woods .  When I was in fourth grade, I wrote my first novel, Little Miss Mouse . My mother kept it all these years and it’s now in my possession. I laugh when I read those ten handwritten pages. At the tim...

She taught the first class I attended at ACFW. Her husband graciously showed, enduring Julie's stories. She taught how to write Christian Romance. We laughed and learned so much that night.  I asked her to share her writing journey with us. Here is what she wrote: My Journey As a Christian Romance Writer … My journey as a romance author actually came LONG before my journey with God. It happened the moment I read Gone With the Wind at the age of twelve. The instant that Scarlett seared Rhett with a look on the winding staircase of Twelve Oaks, I was hooked, and my “romance-writing career” began with a 150-page, single-spaced ms. ent...
