Unity Day

courtesy of freedigitalphotos.net
On this day in 1990, East and West Germany reunified to become one country.

The Berlin Wall had separated families, neighbors, and friends for years. In 1945, those living in the east became part of the Soviet Union (USSR) and lived under communist rule. Those in the west maintained their freedom.

When the Berlin Wall came down in 1989, west Germans struggled to help their eastern brothers. Those living under Soviet rule lived in dilapidated apartments, bought groceries at stores with few supplies, and were restricted where they could go, to name a few hardships.

During the 1980's, many Soviet territories rebelled against the communist hold on their countries. Gradually communism lost control.

Many people raised in the USSR believed other countries really lived like them. Even years later. A family member visited relatives in the United States and one night the topic of grocery stores came up.

We took him to a store where he saw shelves filled with food.

He said, "This is a store you take visitors to. All your stores are not like this."  We took him to nine different grocery stores all having shelves filled with food items to buy. He still did not believe.

I could understand. He had been raised to believe one way, of course he would struggle to accept a different view no matter what proof was given. In time, he saw, understood, and believed American grocery stores had food.

When we share our faith in Christ with someone and he/she shows an inability to understand or otherwise rejects what we share . . . be patient.

After all, the apostle Paul needed a jolt to get his attention.

I think of this when I consider the rapture. How could anyone 'left behind' not see that it was real ? Yet, if you are blinded by the enemy, you won't see it.

An interesting situation, Mary. Thanks for sharing. Nie to see you in the blog hop!
Yes, that will be a sad time. But then I was blinded before God opened my eyes. I am so thankful He did. And pray the same will happen soon to others. Thanks for stopping by Debra.

This is encouraging to me. I sometimes feel a bit down when a friend is so slow to move toward God. I need to rejoice that her head turns to look His way even if her feet haven't yet made steps toward walking into church.
Nice way to view the situation, Janice.

I asked Andrea to tell us how God led her on her writing journey. Here is what she said:  Romance Done Write I didn’t read much while growing up in my family’s suburban Milwaukee, Wisconsin home. I read what I was assigned for school, along with an occasional children’s novel like Pippi Longstocking and Little House in the Big Woods .  When I was in fourth grade, I wrote my first novel, Little Miss Mouse . My mother kept it all these years and it’s now in my possession. I laugh when I read those ten handwritten pages. At the tim...

Here is what she wrote: My Journey As a Christian Romance Writer … My journey as a romance author actually came LONG before my journey with God. It happened the moment I read Gone With the Wind at the age of twelve. The instant that Scarlett seared Rhett with a look on the winding staircase of Twelve Oaks, I was hooked, and my “romance-writing career” began with a 150-page, single-spaced ms. ent...

One of my absolute favorite classes at ACFW this last year was the medical fiction class. That wasn't the real title, I can't remember what snazzy name the instructors gave it--BUT three stellar medical professionals, who are also Christian Fiction writers, presented great information then opened the time for questions. We students asked them all kinds of questions like what kind of poison would kill a ..., and tons of other questions. It was sooooo much fun, and informative.     I asked Candace, who was one of those fabulous teachers, to join us and share  how God has led her on her writing journey.
