It seems we all must face huge trials in our life. Despite her experience, Colleen joyfully shared with me what God has done for her. I asked her to tell you how God has led her on her journey. Here is her story:
After Wandering So Long in the Wilderness
I can still remember the first story I ever wrote. It was in
first grade and was about twin colts. My teacher praised my writing, and the
seed was planted. Someday I would be a writer.
The seed lay dormant through the early years of marriage and
raising a family. āSomedayā I was going to write. I devoured books by the
armloads from the library, and it bothered me to read the hopelessness in them
that assumed there was no God. Through those years, I told God if heād give me
a story, Iād love to write from the viewpoint that he exists and cares about
his children. But nothing came.
August 25, 1990 changed everything. The phone rang late that
night with the news that the oldest of my three younger brothers had been killed
by lightning in a freak farm accident. In the coming months, as I emerged from
the storm of grief, I realized that if I was ever going to follow the dream I
believed God had put in my heart, I needed to get started. I was approaching my
fortieth birthday, and time was marching on.

It still wasnāt easy. Getting published is hard and takes
work and commitment. Every time I was tempted to let the computer go dark, God
whispered in my heart that I could do it. That he had given me everything I
needed to go on. When a rejection came, Iād cry for a while. Then Iād pick
myself back up, rework it and send it out again.
Seven years later I finally made the first sale. But God taught me about faith and perseverance through those seven years. In those days I knew no other writers. It was lonely and soul-crushing at times. Iām so thankful for American Christian Fiction Writers and other authors whose friendships I treasure now after wandering so long in that wilderness.

Looking back, Iām glad it wasnāt
easier. It makes me appreciate so much more the joy and privilege I have to
share my novels with my readers and to hopefully make them a little thirsty for
the One who holds out a cup of living water.

Elegance and wealth. Privilege and politics. The extravagance of the Butterfly Palace overwhelmed Lilyās senses and nearly smothered her painful memories. She pushed away her misgivings . . . She was perfectly safe in this huge house.
Austin, Texasā1904: Abandoned by the love of her life and still mourning the loss of her mother, Lily Donaldson has turned her back on the pain and come to Austin for a fresh start, working for the Marshall family as a kitchen maid in their luxurious mansion, the Butterfly Palace. The tasks before her are legion, and her mistress less than pleasant, but at least Lilyās new life will be, if nothing else, distracting.
But one night, while serving at a dinner party, Lily recognizes the man who abandoned her, Andy, her liaison from the livery stable, the blacksmithās son . . .sitting among the distinguished guests. Though he recognizes her, Andy does not acknowledge her aloud, and Lily is left reeling, flabbergasted, and irate.

When Heather and her fellow book club
members begin passing the book around, their respective interpretations are
unleashed on their respective love lives . . . for better or for worse. Is it a
mystery? An idealist fantasy? An intimation of Jane Austen? As romantic love
finds its way to each woman, the Guide proves itself both surprisingly
prescient and hilariously irrelevant.
Whatās more, a handwritten inscription
indicates that the arcane book might hold the only extant clues leading to
buried goldāexactly what one of the members needs to keep her house. How could
they not go treasure hunting?
In this remarkable collaborative novel,
besties Colleen Coble, Kristin Billerbeck, Denise Hunter, and Diann Hunt tackle
the tale of the Gentlewomanās Guide by writing for one book club member apiece.
Smitten Book Club is a hopeful, hilarious story of friendship and healing,
written by friends for friends.

So nice to see you today. I will be praying for your request. To start:
Almighty Father,
Janice requests that you help her with wisdom and insight. She truly seeks to walk the path you have for her and to glorify you name in doing so. Help her to see your way and to walk steady and strong in your will.
Amen.
So glad you could come today. Sounds like you have had experiences with waiting and being open to God's guidance as well.
Your Friday blessings struck an interesting urge for me to have some ice cream. Bizarre idea with the winter storms we've been having. Guess those kid thoughts like to pop up to make us smile. What flavor ice cream do you like?
Blessings on your Friday as well.

I'm so glad you stopped by. As I read your first line I sensed you inhaled deeply and released the air slowly. The added benefit to the struggles from the past is the increased endurance for future situations. They also help us to know best how to empathize with others.
That is what I will do with your right now. I am a three time cancer survivor, have been through all the processes. My journey has been 17 years so far. I will definitely pray for you as one who understands, and the friends and family of the dear friend. Let's start with this short prayer:
Loving Father,
I pray your mercy and warm embrace be given to these folks who are hurting inside. This is such a deep hurt right now. Help them to sense your comfort, feel the warmth of your love, and your concerned presence. Give them rest at night, and direction in the day.
Amen

SO enjoyed Colleen's post about her writing journey!
Yes - I can definitely say that my trials have made me who I am today! It is through the trials that I finally realized that "my" way wasn't working, and reached out for God - my life is now much happier knowing He will guide me through future trials as I do things "His" way!
I haven't read any of Colleen's books and would love to read "Butterfly Palace" - thanks for the opportunity to win a copy!!

Re: your granddaughter, I'll gladly pray. Let's start right hereā¦
Loving Father,
You are the great healer. You know about Maxie's granddaughter's needs, especially her medical needs. We pray that you will help her to find a physician to work with on a regular basis. One that will come to know her medical situation better with a lasting relationship. Direct her to a doctor who will have the special knowledge to understand the issue and provide the information, medical treatment plan, and bedside manner to help her. Thank you for your provision, your willingness to listen to all our concerns, and your loving spirit.
Amen.
Thank you again for this giveaway.

The friends are a gift from God. Since they came to your mind at this very moment it shows what treasured friends they are. Ones who provide you with the listening ear, encouragement, and etc.
Dear Jesus,

Amen.
