I have seen how much interest you all have in Pinterest by your visits to this post.
I asked a friend to write a post about Pinterest with lots of great information.
Here is the link to the post which appears/d August 1-3, 2014
Stop by for some great information!
I have finally joined the ranks.
I set up a Pinterest account.
I am learning, yet am so very green at this. Surely you all know much more how to navigate and use this marvelous resource.
So, instead of me leading the chat today, will you teach me?
I set up a few boards and pinned a few pics. I followed a few people and would like to follow you. Here is my link: http://www.pinterest.com/maryveewriter/
Did you go to my link and see it?
Okay, go ahead and laugh. I admit, I am a beginner with visions of becoming a pro.
The only way I can become proficient is by learning your short cuts, ways of using special functions, benefits you've found, and anything else.
I am a willing and ready to learn student.

Great, I will be chatting with you. You are so amazingly gifted in these areas. I didn't know what all I wanted to set it up for until I started seeing others. Since then I have made some decisions. I'd like to use it to show 1. the great places God has shown me. 2. for my writing-characters, settings. 3. not sure what else yet. What I am not clear on is the freedom to use other people's great photos for things like on my blogs. I don't understand the rules of sharing the photos.
I am following you and will enjoy seeing your progress.

I enjoy looking at the beautiful pics on Pinterest, but know absolutely nothing about using it, or setting up my own boards! It looks very time consuming to me, and I already find it hard to accomplish all that I want to do on the blogs, and Facebook!
Everyone has to start somewhere, and I feel sure that you will soon be a "pro" at Pinterest!
I am using small commercial moments to set mine up. You're right, it can become time consuming and I don't want it to take away from what I am already doing. I mostly set mine up when I was sick and very void of thinking power. Hah! Maybe that is why I had problems!!
A lot of authors set up boards that are mostly writing focused. Some ideas are novel settings, characters' faces, historical research, writing quotes, books, writing gifts/products, and so on. If you search for some of your favourite authors on Pinterest, you'll soon catch on to how they use it.
The biggest thing for me is that I do it because I love it. It's a great way to store and organise information and ideas that I'm interested in. If you do it just because you think you have to, it's going to be a drag and others probably won't be that into your pins either. If you pin what you love and what you're passionate about, it's a way to showcase your personality, and people will follow.
So as well as writing-related things, I'd think about your other interests and hobbies and start boards for those areas too. You can click on the magnifying glass icon in Pinterest to search a wide variety of categories for pins to get you started.
Hope that helps! (Can you tell I'm slightly Pinterest addicted??) :)
Except, like anyone else who is learning, you have raised many new questions for me. We should Skype. You could really point me in the right direction.
I want to use Pinterest….I can see the benefits…just am slow to figure out the rules. It's the ultra organized part of me. Like why would I pin on someone else's board? I think I saw someone do that. What if the person doesn't like it?
I'm still wobbling about the picture use. Can I use a picture from your Pinterest for something like a blog? Do I have to ask you or tell you first? Maybe give you credit with the photo?
Re. using Pinterest pics on your blog - opinion is divided. The majority of bloggers seem to take the approach that it's ok as long as you credit the source with a link-back - preferably not just to Pinterest but to the original source on the web where the image came from. (You can usually find the original site by clicking through from Pinterest.) Other bloggers are more conservative and won't post an image that belongs to someone else, only a link to the image. I think the main thing to remember is that Pinterest is a collecting point for images that do belong to people/ blogs/ websites at various places all over the web, so it really is essential to credit the source. Hope that helps! :)
I assume then, if I see a pic on someone else's Pinterest, I don't have to ask permission to pin it?
