Book Review - One More Last Chance

I recently finished a delightful, easy read, One More Last Chance by Cathleen Armstrong due to be released tomorrow, May 6th. Cathleen was my guest, last December 6 when her book, Last Chance hit the shelves. Click here to read her wonderful post: Roadmap Not Included
Armstrong weaves a down home tale about Sarah Cooley, a college graduate ready to start her career as an elementary teacher back in her home town, and Chris Reed, a big city chef ready to open his own restaurant in a new frontier.

 Thankful to return to the small town she'd grown up in, Sarah rented a house a few doors down from her Grandmother's and started preparations for teaching her new class of second grade students. Cozy tea time visits with Grandma gave her a chance to catch up on news since she'd left. Everything seemed the same, as it should be, except for the new owner of Dip 'n' Dine.

 Chris Reed's new restaurant business is struggling to bring in enough revenue to pay the bills. He'd left the big city with a pantry full of new recipes and enough enthusiasm to charm the good people of Last Chance into trying the latest in culinary cuisine. Clearly he didn't know the strong bond between the good people of small town, USA and their traditions.

 If Sarah had her way, Chris and his new recipes would be run out of town. But change rises with the hot sun, blowing the unexpected in with the wind.
I especially enjoyed the simple, yet lively action of this story. It served as the perfect read before bedtime causing me to laugh and take sides during the playful banter. Of course the small town matchmakers, gossipers, and all around take charge folk enhanced this story, reminding those of us who have lived in small towns about the way it was.

This really was a fun read. I actually guessed the ending wrong. I love when that happens!!

Yes, this is the kind of book to read before bedtime and know, after you close the book for the night, you'll slip into a restful sleep.
