We can be our own worse critics.
Most often we compare ourselves or our actions to someone we hold in esteem. We see our work as inferior and immediately criticize ourselves.
Perhaps the work was not the same, but the product may have resulted in an equal blessing.
Take for example, the five-year-old who played Jesus Loves Me on the piano during a church service. While the performance may not have been at the level of a virtuoso pianist, could you honestly say you'd enjoy the music any less or were in the least bit hampered in worshiping God?
Our individuality is so very important.
God created each of us with our own talents to minister in only ways we can. If we were to do a job like the person we compare ourselves to, what good would we be? Likewise, if others did their work as we did, what good would they be?
Don't worry about being yourself. Even professionals stumble, stammer, lose things, miss details, overcook dinner, and etc. And consider all the times your work has been worthy to be called professional.
Let's pause for a moment and name a few of those tasks:
Hosting your child's birthday party
Volunteering at a school or community event
Getting your family off in the morning
Laundry
secretarial
...your turn to name a few
In the movie It's a Wonderful Life, George Bailee learns the importance of his work. Had he not been the one to do each job throughout his life, even though he considered the tasks small, many other folks could not have done theirs.
The Bible says we, who are the children of God, are parts of one body. One is a toe bringing balance, another an arm, etc. Each with our own specific task carrying great importance.
If we are committed to the task from beginning to end and not sway from what we are called to do then we will see the fruit of our work.
God will cheer you on. He wants to see you succeed. He also wants you to feel good about the work you have done. Zephaniah 3:17 says:
The Lord your God in your midst,
The Mighty One, will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.
We are all important and our specific tasks, done only the way we can do them, are crucial to God's plan.
Feel free to go and do a task your way. As long as you give your best, the results will bear fruit. We may not always see the results, but God does.
