My close friend and fellow Writer's Alley cat, Sherrinda Ketchersid is my guest today.
She is A-MAZ-ING when it comes to crafts + computers.
A while back I did a post on Pinterest and surprise of all surprise many of you loved the post and seemed to want to learn more. I am hardly an expert, but I know someone who is. Meet Sherrinda Ketchersid.
Pinterest…you’ve heard about it, right? Well, let
me tell you, I absolutely love it! It is such a fun site and can be a great
tool for anyone to use. From planning a party to writing a book, Pinterest can
make it easy to collect pictures and websites to help you with your project.
The thing about Pinterest is that you can create
“boards” and then “pin” pictures and tutorials from websites all over the web.
That way it is easy to go back and find the things you need easily. Think of it
as an online filing system…a beautiful, colorful, visual filing system!

Now, Kaye Dacus (link: http://www.pinterest.com/kayedacus/) is brilliant at using Pinterest
for her writing. She has boards for fashion in many different decades. She pins
all kinds of clothing and accessories that were worn during those decades. Here
is a picture of one of her boards for 1800-1820.
Let’s go a different route. Say you needed a gift
idea for a friend, or a teacher, or a housewarming party. I have a board for

How about using Pinterest as a devotional or an
encouragement to your soul? Create a board for scripture or motivational quotes
to look at when you are down or need a “pick-me-up”.
There is no limit to what you can do with
Pinterest!
I must give you a word of caution about Pinterest.
I recently read an eye-opening post regarding copyright issues and Pinterest
was mentioned. You can read the post HERE (LINK: http://nelsonagency.com/blogging-authors-beware-you-can-get-sued-roni-loren-guest-blogs/) in its entirety. From what the
articles says, Pinterest states that if you load a picture onto their site, you
are claiming you have the legal right to that picture. If there is copyright
infringement and legal action is taken, it will be YOU that gets in trouble,
not Pinterest.
So…not to scare you off, but you must use caution when
pinning. How do you do that? Well, have you ever scrolled over a picture and a
PIN IT button appears? That picture is pinnable! Do you ever see “share”
buttons over a picture or article? (like Pinterest, Facebook, etc.) That
picture/article is pinnable!
What about “re-pinning”? That is trickier, in my
opinion. Always make sure the Pin is linked to the original website. If I were
you, I would check to see if the pictures are pinnable. You want to respect the
author or artist or photographer of whatever it is you are pinning. Many
authors/artists like Pinterest for the marketing factor it provides. If it
drives people to their Etsy shop or website for business, then that is a good
thing. You just need to be careful in your pinning.
This is all I know about Pinterest. I hope I didn’t
scare you off with the information regarding copyrights, but I want to make
sure that we are ethical in our actions. We honor God by honoring and respecting
others.
