When the Grumpies Knock Your Feet Out From Under You...

I usually wait for some striking idea before writing these posts. Sometimes that means I'm writing the ideas the night before, other times I am inundated with thoughts and can write weeks ahead.

I do this because I don't want to just jot down anything. This is a golden time I get to spend with you. A time we can chat about issues that stir our hearts and bring us close to God.

These ideas frequently come at the strangest time. This one is no different.

Here I was, wallowing in a grumpy, nobody loves me mode most of day. It didn't start that way.

God woke me with a beautify sunny sky (my favorite). The birds sang and scurried about the yard. Ducks swam in the lake. He helped me think of Him as I got up and started my day. I thought of several prayer requests posted here on this blog, and ones from Facebook. I prayed for my friends and their concerns.

Then the grumpies came, knocking my feet out from under me. I prayed. Said Bible verses. Sang Scripture songs. Sigh. The grumpies didn't go away.

All day long.

One of the chores I really dislike doing is gardening. My problem is I can't always tell the difference between the flowers and the weeds. But I'd promised hubby I would weed the raspberries patch and plant the new raspberry bushes we'd bought.

7:30 pm. I had to get the job done. The sun would go down soon, and I had to keep my word.

I knelt by the plants and felt so sorry for the young bush. How had all these nasty weeds tangle around them already? I raked the leaves away and pulled the weeds while talking to those poor plants. I ran my fingers through the soil until all the strangling roots were gone.

I bet you know where this is going. Yeah. I kept talking to those poor plants, and told them I knew exactly how they felt. We'd both been tangled up in weeds that strangled the good life from us today. I dug deep into the dirt one more time to make sure the weeds were gone then set wood chips on top of the soil to protect them a little longer.

I should have done the work earlier in the day. Working those grumpies out of my muscles felt good. Seeing how nice the raspberry bushes look made me happy.

So, now, I sit at my keyboard with dirt under my fingernails and share how good God is to us.

True, He has to work the dirt and pull the weeds out of our lives. Sometimes He has to yank pretty hard to get the deep roots to pull free.

But He loves us enough to do this whenever we need.

Thank you, God.

This post was brought to you by the one word: Godcares

How are you doing, today?
Do you have a praise to share?
How about a prayer request?

Or how about a howdie do? ;)

True enough, how God talks to us in just the right way, and that usually in a way we would have never imagined. Pretty awesome.

One of my absolute favorite classes at ACFW this last year was the medical fiction class. That wasn't the real title, I can't remember what snazzy name the instructors gave it--BUT three stellar medical professionals, who are also Christian Fiction writers, presented great information then opened the time for questions. We students asked them all kinds of questions like what kind of poison would kill a ..., and tons of other questions. It was sooooo much fun, and informative.     I asked Candace, who was one of those fabulous teachers, to join us and share  how God has led her on her writing journey. Here is what she said: God Gave Me a Wake-up Fall The story won’t surprise folks who hav...

I asked Andrea to tell us how God led her on her writing journey. Here is what she said:  Romance Done Write I didn’t read much while growing up in my family’s suburban Milwaukee, Wisconsin home. I read what I was assigned for school, along with an occasional children’s novel like Pippi Longstocking and Little House in the Big Woods .  When I was in fourth grade, I wrote my first novel, Little Miss Mouse . My mother kept it all these years and it’s now in my possession. I laugh when I read those ten handwritten pages. At the tim...

Fabulous Friday Feature-Lorna Seilstad

Today we welcome author: Lorna Seilstad One commenter will win a copy of Lorna's book:  As Love Blooms Scroll down to see how. Mary here. I have quickly learned what an amiable person Lorna is. After only a few emails we've become great friends and found similar things to talk about. You'll see this same spirit in her post below. I asked Lorna to tell us how God led her on her writing journey. Here is what she said:  Excuses! Excuses! Moses and I have a lot in common. Oh, I haven’t led any Egyptians out of bondage, but I have looked at the path God laid out for me and rattled off excuses that would rival those of the great spiritual leader himself. You’re probably familiar with the story. God gets Moses’ attention with a burning bush, and then when He begins to disclose his plans for Moses’ future, the excuses start. ( My paraphrase of the story:) “Moses, I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people ou...
