I sat with my daughter in a coffee shop on a busy street near her college. She chose window seats. Not a booth. We sat on chairs that nestled up to a counter along the window. Of course, we had loads of fun people watching while sipping our coffees.
Do you know what happens when you people watch! LOL You see people. Real people. Not someone putting on an act or trying to impress someone. This is when the real personalities sneak out.
First let me say that my childlike nature came out full throttle. My daughter and I made no attempts to hide the fact that we were people watching. That alone created some hilarious moments....
Like the businessman walking past wearing a full suit. He had perfectly groomed hair and happened to look at the coffee shop window. My daughter and I smiled. He scrunched up his face as if to say--do I know you? Muwhahahaha.
Or the dad/kid totem pole. Dad had both hands filled with bags and toddler sitting on his shoulders. Her little fingers dug into his forehead. He leaned forward to keep everything balanced as he walked. This won the cute award.
Or the police officer in uniform talking on his cell phone as he walked past. He looked our way, raised his eyebrows, and nodded. I'm guessing he was on break, but both my daughter and I wondered whom he was talking to. Hmmmmmmm.

Of course I saved the winner for last. A young Ken and Barbie couple walked past. They seemed in a hurry. She wore skinny white pants and a long sleeved shirt. He wore jeans and a casual shirt.
He look at the street, I assume checking for traffic then pivoted to cross. She didn't get the message right away and abruptly turned to catch up to him. In this short moment, she wiped her face with her sleeve. ZING. No one saw her do that, right? Not so. My daughter and I did!
People aren't perfect. We try to look prim and proper. We try to stand straight like Mom taught us. We try to eat with a fork (Seriously? even in a fancy restaurant french fries beg to be eaten with the hands.) We want to sneeze in a tissue but may not have one. Sometimes life puts us in a situation when our real personality sneaks out.
These we understand.
There are times, though when our ungodly nature tries to sneak out. The Apostle Paul's words come to mind, "For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do." Romans 7:15.
The moments when we think we are alone or assume no one sees, God sees. In His loving Words, He said, "I will never leave you or forsake you."
God loves us...Let's make Him proud, even when He is the only one watching.
