Mary here. I'm so happy to welcome Lynette. We are simpatico in writing interests. The thrill of adventure, mystery, suspense. Staying up late reading books by flashlight. The surprise. The twist. Ahhhh the very core of a memorable story. This is what Lynette writes. I'm so excited to share with you Lynette's inspirational post. God's leading, gift, provision. Yes. You simply must read her response to my question, how has God led you on your writing journey. Here is what she said:

The Wonderful People God Gives Us

When I was a young mother of one, my husband travelled quite a bit with his job as a fund raiser and I often found myself home alone with an infant. Needless to say, I also found myself quite lonely.

Ever since I was a teenager, I had the idea to one day write a book, but had never made the time to do it what with school, then more school then a full time job. But now I was a stay at home mother and had the time.

I pulled out an old laptop and started pounding out a story I had running around in my head. And I loved it! I was totally hooked on this writing thing. Unfortunately, I didn’t really know what I was doing.

In the meantime, I was also reading anything I could get my hands on—especially in the Romantic Suspense genre. One day while browsing the Christian Fiction section at my local Christian bookstore, I came across a story by Dee Henderson. Danger In the Shadows really inspired me and I decided that, “I want to write like her!”

Dee was relatively new on the publishing scene at that time, but she quickly grew to be one of the top Christian fiction authors in the publishing world. I emailed Dee and told how much I loved her book and wonder of wonders, she emailed me back! Through our correspondence, she answered a lot of my writing questions, encouraged me to keep chasing the dream and even edited one of my manuscripts that she used as a teaching tool. Thanks to Dee’s willingness to mentor me, I learned how to write a lot faster than if I’d had to rely on simply going to conferences and reading writing books!

Anyway, eight years later after several writing conferences, and three completed manuscripts, I finally submitted to the Women’s Contemporary Fiction line that Love Inspired used to have. I got the manuscript back with a four-page revision letter and the offer to resubmit after I completed the revisions.

I did this, resubmitted and on February 16th, 2007, received an offer from Love Inspired to publish it with the shorter line. I was fine with that since the line I originally submitted it to was being discontinued!

I can look back now and see, through this entire journey to publication, God’s hand on each and every step. The people that he placed in my path were there because He put them there. Not only were they there to teach me, they were there to encourage and push me when I wondered if I should just give up.

Again, looking back, I can see that God knew exactly what I needed each step of the way. And truly, if we seek to follow Him, we can trust that He will do exactly what He promises. He is faithful and He’ll never let us down.

How about you? Can you think of a time that you wondered if you were doing the right thing, but look back now and see God was moving and working the whole time?

Thank you so much for having me on you blog!

Your story is amazing and helpful to me. I need to find a mentor like you did. I wish I had seen that conference earlier. I need to find conferences like that to attend, too. I will watch for it next year.

Looking back over my life, I can see God's hand is present all the time, even during my rebellious years when I turned my back on Him. He was still watching over me and protecting me, and when I turned back to Him, He directed my footsteps to my future husband.

I think God is always present in our life. But sometimes we aren't paying attention and we don't realize that fact. I try very hard to pay attention, but it is difficult. I found it interesting that you used to read in bed by flashlight. I did the same thing! I'm glad you pursued your writing. Some people would have given up. Have a good day. Oh, I am sooo excited for this book. Lynette is one of my favorite suspense authors! To answer the question, I remember trying to decide on whether to move or stay in a particular place. I nervously made the decision to move. Looking back, I can see God's hands all over that process. Thanks for the interview and the giveaway!!

I'd love to see you at the conference, Linda. The ACFW is at the end August this year. You will have an opportunity to meet so many wonderful people. What amazes me the most about attending a Christian conference is there literally is only support. The competitive unkindness is not a component there. If you do go....look for Lynette and me and say hi. Oh, and you CAN sign up to speak with a mentor!! Seriously!! I did and was amazed with the help she gave.
How timely are your words. I just wrote a post on my ministry blog about the Israelites rebuilding the temple after the exile. They had so much trouble. Nations around them bullied them and did everything they could to keep them from the work. Then God gave visions to Ezra and Zephaniah. Visions of encouragement. Psalms were written about this as well. Check out Psalm 78. It tells the same story. Even when we walk away from Him...He will still give rain and protect us.

Hi Linda, thanks for stopping by. I'm so glad my story was helpful. And there are mentors everywhere. Keep praying and God will send you just the right one! :) Blessings on your writing.
True. Giving up is the easy way. We all do it. But when we set in our mind to read His Word and meditate on it, giving up becomes a nasty taste. We square our shoulders and step forward seeing God's presence, His love, and protection. This is the discipline I want and work on.
Thanks for sharing today, Laurie. I'm so glad you stopped by.
Lynette Eason said…
Love that testimony, Kim. He is so faithful!
We don't always know God is whispering in our ear, leading us this way or that. The best part is God helps us to know the best way. Then afterwards, we see.

Great thoughts, Loraine. Thanks so much for chatting with us today.
Lynette Eason said…
Hi Laurie, yes, giving up would have been so easy! But I'm glad I stuck with it, too. Most days anyway! LOL. Some days it would still be easier to quit and go find a "real" job. You know? But as long as God directs me to write, that's what I'll do. :)
Lynette Eason said…
Isn't it amazing how we can look back and see God so clearly working in our lives? Sometimes I have to remind myself of that when I'm tempted to wonder if he's paying attention. LOL. But He is!

I love how Lynette's story comes together with the help of Dee Henderson and by God's design. (I wish all writers were as gracious as Lynette and Dee and would respond to their readers.) I can easily look back and see how God directed my path when all I could think was "there's no way"! I have been fortunate enough to meet Lynette on 2 occasions. You would never believe this sweet, soft-spoken little lady could write the "sleep with the lights on" suspense that she does! I would love to win her new book, but congratulations to the blessed person that does! I will always be a devoted fan! Blessings!

I love reading your books. They are always filled with suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat . I think we sometimes hear God's voice, but ignore it thinking we have a better plan. That is where we make our mistake, by trying to help God. Thank you fir writing books that are inspiring and always faith filled.

Don't you just love when God puts a theme in the minds of many at the same time? It's as if He's saying, "Hello children. I'm here. I have everything under control. Rest easy and do the work I've trusted to you."

Susan,
If you get a chance to read this, leave your email. The only other thing to do is sign up for my newsletter in the right column. This will put you in the drawing...and I would love to have you enter. I can tell we are simpatico already because I too enjoy suspense.

Deana,
I'm sad to say I'm one of those who in the heat of the moment thinks I have a better plan. But thanks be to God, He knows I am finite, and still loves me and leads me to the point where I truly have to trust Him to be in charge. We are so blessed, right Deanna.

This gives me some hope! It has been a long time dream of mine to write a manuscript. Even if it never makes it anywhere, I'd like to try. I've struggled with where to begin, and how to find the time. I know, in God's timing, the right story will pour onto the pages. I love your work, Lynette. Dee was my favorite, until I found you! Happy writing!

I have been blessed to meet Lynette and read quite a few of her books. They never disappoint. I thought I might be a writer someday. I use to write plays that were put on while in 5th and 6th grade. I entered contests to try to win a t.v. script so I could see how they were actually written. That dream never came to pass, but that's okay. I still like to journal. I see God's hand in many aspects of my life. Through many twists and turns, I met and married my husband. He is from New Hampshire and I am from Virginia. We met in England while in the Air Force. There are many other strange twists as to how we got there but that's a long tale. I also saw God's hand in a recent illness and hospitalization I just had. No, I don't think God made me sick but I believe he used my illness for good. My sister is going through some medical issues right now and she was scheduled for a lower abdominal CT scan. She was very nervous about it. It was scheduled for Tuesday. Well, on the previous Thursday, I ended up in the ER with severe lower abdominal pain and I had an emergency CT scan. I had my scan and I could tell her step by step what to expect. It put her mind at ease and she did very well with her scan. I believe everything happens for a reason. Sometimes it is apparent right away and other times, you have to wait a while to see the reason, if you ever do. Sometimes you just need to be still to hear Him whisper to you. dgillis1@sc.rr.com
What sound advice, Debbie. God has truly opened your eyes and has blessed you to minister to others through you life experiences. I'm so glad you shared today. We all find reason to praise God when we see how He blesses others. Hope to see you again.
Hi Mary and Lynette. I enjoyed reading how God guided you with your wriring career, Lynette. In 1991, I answered an ad for a part-time job at our public library. I had been a stay-at-home mother and a full-time farmer. We grew 20 acres of tobacco and had a dairy operation and I was right there working beside my husband. Still, as hard as we worked, we still were having financial difficulties and I thought this might be a way to help with the increasing cost of medical insurance. The job was just one day a week but my husband was not very happy to hear that I had answered that ad because he had come to depend on my always being available. Long story short, I was hired and after 3 years, I became a full-time library assistant. The next 22 1/2 years were the most fulfilling years I think I could have had. I developed computer skills that I never would gained, I was allowed to work with the books that I love and I was able to influence a countless number of children and adults that reading is essential! I also obtained my paraprofessional certificate and proved that a person is never too old to change hid life. I truly believe that God guided me to that newspaper ad; He gave me the courage to apply, take the test and ace the interview; and He softened my husband's heart so that he would accept my decision. This certainly isn't the only time that God has intervened and I know it won't be the last!
Blessings!

I absolutely love every one of your books and I am so looking forward to this new series.

I wondered the last time I made a job change if I was doing the right thing. I later learned that this job move allowed me to meet a lifelong friend that would need my support very early on in our friendship. It was all a God thing.

Thanks for the giveaway. I am also a newsletter subscriber and get your posts via email.

Connie, what a sweet story. I think initially your hubby want concerned for not only himself but you. He didn't realize you potential, but God intervened, watered your seed and let your flower blossom. Look all that God has brought to your life. AND the uber amazing part was the change in your hubby. Sigh. This is a story to be written :)

Thanks so much for sharing, Connie!
Yes, Melissa, I see you are a newsletter subscriber.
Re the job change I had the similar situation happen. I left a Christian School which I loved working at but had no medical benefits and months later found a case worker job. This became a great opportunity for me to demonstrate my faith, a desire to work, and to establish friends. Years later I'm still friends with the co-workers and bosses. They see my testimony all the time. What a blessing. God knew. Like He knew for you.

I'm so glad you are able to help this friend of yours. What a great opportunity to be Jesus to someone.

There's not a single moment in my life that I can't look back and NOT see God's hands in it! And even when I'm in the midst of something going on in my life, I trust Him to lead me. There have been times when I wondered if I made the right decisions, but it always worked out. Maybe not in the way I thought, but in the only perfect way God can! I pray before I make any major decision & wait until I get an answer. Sometimes I don't get a definite one, at that point, I go with what I have peace about. I trust that's the right decision. If I don't have peace, I don't do it! I've trusted that method for a long time & God's never steered me wrong. I also love Romans 8:28, it tells me no matter what, He'll work it all out for my good....even when I do misstep!!

Thanks for the interview Lynette, I loved learning about your writing journey! Your newest book is much anticipated by me, thanks for the chance to win a copy for myself. I saw on your FB page a while back, a video on the cover shoot. That was a lot of fun to see!

Huge Lynette Eason fan. I started out listening to my mom read to me when I was a small child. Because she did this, I love to read now, 50 years later. I am blessed beyond measure and so thankful that even when I go rogue, our heavenly Father is still watching out for me and taking care of me. Thank you, Lynette, for allowing God to use you in such a wonderful way. What a ministry you have! Can't wait to read your newest release, Always Watching"
