~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Mary here. I'm so happy to welcome Robin. Robin shares her life struggles that have become a foundation to her writing. God has led her on an incredible journey that is sure to minister to others who struggle. I asked Robin to tell us how God led her on her writing journey. Here is what she said:
Writing Is What God Created Me To Do
Delight yourself in the Lord and He
will give you your heart’s desire.
Psalm 37:4
An uninformed, cursory
glance at this verse puts God in a Genie lamp, waiting to rubbed.
But
that’s not what He intended at all, especially taken in context with the rest
of Scripture. He showed me years ago He put those desires in us to begin with,
and when we delight in Him, His presence, i.e. rest in Him, and know Him, then
the desires will emerge.
1995
was a turning point for me. Things Father had been putting in place for years surfaced
and my life changed. Well, began to change. And somewhere in the process, I began
to write. My inner muse was coming out to play. Holy Spirit prescribed therapy.
(In addition to counseling and an anti-depressant) But writing is what reached
deep within me and stirred my spirit to be free. I learned that a) I love
writing, and b) I’m pretty good at it!
I once said I should write down all the story ideas in
my head so someone could write them someday. I had no idea at the time that
someone was me! Now I know. And all those stories? They’re still there,
waiting their turn.
I
guess it’s pretty evident by now that I’m a Christian, and what I do is for Him
and from Him. But I don’t market as Christian Fiction. I write from a Christian
world view, meaning I may or may not use PG-13 language in places. I’ve learned
about my audience and have chosen to market to all readers, especially the
general reader who does not yet know Christ.
My
stories are gritty with heavy topics. I pull from my years before that 1995
turning point. And from the journey He’s brought me on since. Namely identity.
Confession: I hated my name growing up. Hated it until just a few years ago. Because I hated ME! I don’t anymore.
Hate myself. Or my name.
So
what I write, I pray speaks to someone who struggles with identity. With their
worth and value in Christ. That’s where my life journey has brought me. To see
my place in Kingdom—a princess, daughter of the Most High God. To see, identify
the gifts He has placed in me, and recognize they are for Kingdom purpose.
(Still blows me away that I love what I’m doing, and yet it’s Kingdom work!) I
give my gift of writing back to Father, I strive to write with excellence, to
His glory. And I pray and trust Him to put my books in the hands of the
individuals who need my message most.
So
my writing journey, my ministry in writing, is really hand in glove with my
personal journey. Learning who I am, who I was created to be. Who I am—and Whose I am. I’m writing. And it fits
like nothing I’ve ever done. Because it’s what He created me to do.
Robin has lived in the Upstate of South Carolina since 1988. She lived in Colorado for sixteen years, where she attended high school, got married, had babies, got divorced and went to college. Her “babies” are now grown, two have babies of their own. She currently lives with five cats.
Robin writes from a Christian-worldview—while a salvation plan is not overt, there are plenty of characters who know the Lord and share His
perspective with those who are struggling.
CLARA BESS
wasn’t at all prepared for what she unearthed at the bottom of her mother’s
keepsake box. Not in the legal papers, not in her own baby book, not in the
safe even.
On the day of
her 50th birthday, Clara Bess Caldwell was not with her family basking in the
joy of a blissful Christmas Day winding down. She was not enjoying eggnog or
coffee by a fireplace, nor was she checking a goose roasting in the oven.
Clara Bess was
at her mother’s house, going through her personal effects, something she had
put off for several weeks. Her children, her husband, her siblings, had all
urged her to wait another day. To not put herself through this ordeal on
Christmas Day. “But it was her birthday, too.” Clara Bess reminded them.
Clara Bess
read, with shock and no small degree of confusion, the line on her birth
certificate where her mother’s name should have been. It did not read Lily
Isabella Sawyer.
Clara Bess rode
waves of confusion for several weeks, unsure what to make of the erroneous
information. Afraid it could be true, she couldn’t bring herself to go to the
courthouse, or the hospital, to have it corrected. Little things pinged in her
memory, things that pointed to the unbelievable possibility. Clara Bess was
adopted. Where, then, were the adoption papers?
