Mary here. I'm so happy to welcome Lynn to Let's Talk. I'm so excited to host a Love Inspired Suspense novelist! These are such exciting reads. Wow! I asked Lynn: how has God led you on your writing journey? Here is what she said:

Opportunities and Adventures

Thank you so much for having me today!

I’m not one of those people who has been writing since they could hold a pencil. My love affair with books began (and continues) as a reader. I was the kid who never left home without a book. This was never a problem until I got my learner’s permit, slid behind the wheel, looked at my mom and said, “How do I get home?” She banned me from reading in the car until I learned my way around town!

All that reading gave me a great sense of how words should flow and during my school years I never had any trouble with writing assignments. I even had a professor beg me to change my major to English. As a Chemical Engineering student, I politely declined his request. After graduating from Clemson (Go Tigers!) I worked as an engineer for five years before leaving to stay at home with our daughter.

Over the years, I had often played with stories in my head, but it wasn’t until six years after leaving the workforce that an idea refused to leave me alone until I sat down at the computer one night with the thought, “How hard could it be?” It turned out to be so much harder than I thought! While I had an intuitive sense of what worked in a story, I had no clue what it took to write something anyone else would ever want to read. It was another six years before I got “The Call” and experienced the thrill of seeing my name on the spine of a book.

Sometimes friends who know my story will ask me if I regret not changing my major and pursuing writing years ago. I always say no. I don’t believe I missed anything along the way. Looking back, all I see are opportunities and adventures—some fun, some terrifying—that God used to shape me into the person I am now. Someone who loves Story, who savors a beautifully crafted sentence, and whose only regret about writing is that it seriously cuts into her reading time!

God’s hand has been on me every step of the way and His timing is perfect. The things we see as detours or dead ends are just plot twists in the story He is writing for us, and He writes the BEST stories.

I’m loving this chapter of my life. It’s certainly one I never could have imagined—and I have a pretty good imagination!

Thank you so much for having me today!!
I think we're going to have a lovely weekend. The garden is looking great, the beach keeps us away from the bugs. The skies are clear. And virtual sweet tea is iced and served. K. Come one come all!

Sounds like a great book! I love being able to read mysteries that I don't have to worry about coming across pornographic scenes in the middle of a perfectly good mystery. Thank you for writing! tdrowlee1@gmail.com
I couldn't agree with you more, Tristan. I hope you get a chance to read this story soon..and when you do...let us know what you thought. :) Thanks so much for joining us today!
Thank you for this chance to learn more about Lynn and Covert Justice. I especially appreciated Lynn's comment that "He is writing for us, and He writes the BEST stories". This is so true!
Blessings!

Hey, Connie!
Good words. I suppose, when we think about it, God is (whatever we are doing) for us and He (what we are doing) BEST. Right? I mean when I get up in the morning, I have a billion choices. Many good...many not so much. From there I can choose...and if I am truly listening to God my choices will be productive ones...in HIs eyes. They may not always seem that way to me...like picking up the kids toys for the 1,000 time, or making my bed (really? I'm going to sleep in it again tonight). Each a discipline. Each a step in the direction to becoming what God wants me to be. Yeah. Good thoughts, Connie. Thanks for sharing.
HI Tristan - I love being able to tell people that everyone - from there teenage daughter to their grandmother - can enjoy the story! I hope you will, too!
Hi Connie - Thank you for your kind comment. I have to remind myself - often! - that He is writing my story and He (unlike some authors I know - cough, cough :)) is never at all confused about where the story is headed! I find so much comfort and encouragement in that!
Grace & peace,
Lynn

Mary, so true. God does guide us. Sometimes we don't notice it...our eyes flitter to the right or left...but He is with us. Like you say, His promises are true. What a treasure, eh? Thanks so much for joining us today.
Hi Mary! You are so right. Sometimes it's hard to see where He is leading us, but it's such a comfort to know that He is!!
Grace & peace,
Lynn

Fabulous Friday Feature-Candace Calvert

Today we welcome author:  Candace Calvert To win a copy of Candace's new release: By Your Side Scroll to the end of the post  to see how to get your copy. Mary Vee here. One of my absolute favorite classes at ACFW this last year was the medical fiction class. That wasn't the real title, I can't remember what snazzy name the instructors gave it--BUT three stellar medical professionals, who are also Christian Fiction writers, presented great information then opened the time for questions. We students asked them all kinds of questions like what kind of poison would kill a ..., and tons of other questions. It was sooooo much fun, and informative.     I asked Candace, who was one of those fabulous teachers, to join us and share  how God has led her on her writing journey. Here is what she said: God Gave Me a Wake-up Fall The story won’t surprise folks who hav...

Fabulous Feature-Andrea Boeshaar

Today we welcome author: Andrea Boeshaar Three commenters will win a copy of Andrea's book:  A Thousand Shall Fall Scroll down to see how. Mary here. Andrea has had an amazing journey. One many of us can relate to. Her post below shows her strength and positive spirit. I'm so happy Andrea is visiting with us today. Pull up a chair, grab your coffee and come chat with Andrea. I asked Andrea to tell us how God led her on her writing journey. Here is what she said:  Romance Done Write I didn’t read much while growing up in my family’s suburban Milwaukee, Wisconsin home. I read what I was assigned for school, along with an occasional children’s novel like Pippi Longstocking and Little House in the Big Woods .  When I was in fourth grade, I wrote my first novel, Little Miss Mouse . My mother kept it all these years and it’s now in my possession. I laugh when I read those ten handwritten pages. At the tim...

Fabulous Friday Feature-Lorna Seilstad

Today we welcome author: Lorna Seilstad One commenter will win a copy of Lorna's book:  As Love Blooms Scroll down to see how. Mary here. I have quickly learned what an amiable person Lorna is. After only a few emails we've become great friends and found similar things to talk about. You'll see this same spirit in her post below. I asked Lorna to tell us how God led her on her writing journey. Here is what she said:  Excuses! Excuses! Moses and I have a lot in common. Oh, I haven’t led any Egyptians out of bondage, but I have looked at the path God laid out for me and rattled off excuses that would rival those of the great spiritual leader himself. You’re probably familiar with the story. God gets Moses’ attention with a burning bush, and then when He begins to disclose his plans for Moses’ future, the excuses start. ( My paraphrase of the story:) “Moses, I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people ou...
